Who I am

Janet Matchinsky is a licensed Minnesota real estate broker and the owner of Home Match Realty, an independent brokerage at 302 Kenwood St, Suite 116, Alexandria, MN 56308. She works in real estate full-time and is a member of NorthstarMLS (agent ID 40532448), which shows 64 closings for her since November 2023: 28 with Home Match Realty as the listing brokerage, 31 where she represented the buyer outside the Longview Circle development, and 5 Longview Circle lot sales recorded on the buyer side, which are development sales. She serves buyers and sellers in Douglas, Pope, Todd, Stearns, Kandiyohi, Otter Tail, Grant, Morrison, Swift, Meeker, Stevens and Renville counties. My story

I work in real estate full-time, and one rule has held from the start: my clients never wonder where I am in the process. It is still the rule.

I opened Home Match Realty as an independent brokerage so I could run things the way I thought they should be run. One broker who is responsible for every file because she is the one working it.

A client summed it up in a review: Janet and her team "match hearts to homes." I have not found a better description of the job.

Most of my sales are within an hour of Alexandria, but the footprint has grown with my clients. I have closed in Willmar, Sartell, Long Prairie, Spicer, Pennock, Villard, Hoffman, and as far as Buffalo Lake, where I helped a couple from California find a home after the first house they came to see, in Redwood Falls, did not work out. Within two days I had shown them about a dozen houses, and they closed on one in Buffalo Lake a few days later. I still visit them from time to time. The closings NorthstarMLS currently shows for me are in the homes I have sold and listed: my own listings with their details, and the sales where I represented the buyer as counts by town, because homes listed by other brokerages are counted, not shown, under NorthstarMLS rules.

How I work

I tell you what is wrong with the house. Buyers hire me to find the right home, not to close the first one. If a foundation is shifting or the roof has five years left, I say so on the driveway, not after inspection.

I answer the phone. Weekends, evenings, last-minute showings when a listing hits at 6 p.m. on a Friday. One buyer on my testimonials page wrote that I was "always a phone call away even after closing on my home," and I take it as the job description.

I help get the home ready. I help sellers with remodeling and preparation, and I have connections to people who can help with the work. Custom home décor and staging bring the rooms together for photos and showings. I also offer 8K drone photos and video where the property calls for them. I negotiate for you, not for the deal. A first-time buyer called me "an awesome negotiator," and a seller wrote that I "took the anxiety out of the negotiation process." I care about the number, and I care more about the terms that protect you after closing.

I stay organized. Every transaction has forty moving parts and most of them have deadlines. Inspection contingencies, financing dates, title work, well and septic compliance on rural property. I keep the calendar so you do not have to.

Outside the office

I read, I swim, I golf, and my family and I go on adventures whenever the calendar allows. The lakes are a big part of why people move to this area. Being outdoors with my family is how I remember why "home" matters so much.

I am at the office on Kenwood Street most days, but the honest answer is that I am usually in the car between Alexandria and wherever the next showing is.
